IMSA has released an updated entry list for the 14th annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda, featuring 58 entrants. However, 53 cars will take the green flag in the 1,000-mile/10-hour marathon on Oct. 1.

The list, which originally featured a capped 60 entries, has seen two recent withdraws. Both the No. 04 Robertson Racing Ford GT and No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car are no longer entered. It now leaves only five alternate starters, based on IMSA's criteria of pre-qualification for the American Le Mans Series and Intercontinental Le Mans Cup round.

The cars in question of being allowed to start are in the LMPC and GTC categories. It's believed that registered full-season entries that have competed in all eight races to date will be locked in, given they complete the minimum qualifying requirements in night practice and next Friday's qualifying session. Those same requirements will be enforced in the remaining four categories as well.

Diesel heavyweights Audi and Peugeot headline the international field that will compete alongside the excellent full-season American Le Mans Series grid including recently crowned ALMS LMP1 champion Dyson Racing. There is plenty at stake for ALMS teams with championships in three classes still up for grabs.

All team champions in the series receive entries to next year’s running of the Le Mans 24 Hours – prizes that also go to Petit Le Mans class winners and champions of the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge.

Dyson Racing and BMW Team RLL already have clinched the LMP1 and GT team championships, respectively. Chris Dyson and Guy Smith won the P1 drivers’ title last weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, as did Joey Hand and Dirk Müller in GT.
