ALMS: Cytosport Returns With Porsche RS Spyder
Northern California sportscar stalwarts Cytosport set to return to the ALMS with an ex-Dyson Porsche RS Spyder at Mid-Ohio.

“The Dysons really bent over backwards to make it an attractive deal,” Dunford said. “It was a package where we got the car and all the spares from both cars. It was pretty much a no-brainer at that point given the price of the car and the massive amount of spares. The fact that there wasn’t going to be another RS Spyder running in America also played heavily on the decision. With the car’s track record of reliability, there’s really no other choice to make.”

With Dyson’s help, Dunford said they’ve brokered a deal with Michelin, another crucial step to success. It’s especially a valuable asset as all of the car’s development and ALMS setups were completed on Michelin tires. Now with a sparkling white RS Spyder in its Benicia, Calif. shop and nearly two truckloads of spares, Dunford and new team manager Geoff Carter are ramping up efforts for its first race at Mid-Ohio, August 8th.

A debut in the next ALMS round at Lime Rock has been ruled out due to the time constraints of coordinating the Porsche Motorsport-supported program. Testing is expected to commence early in July at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Ca., where SPEEDtv.com will be on hand to capture the team’s first days of running.

The team also has ambitions of making it back to Le Mans in 2010, quite possibly with the very same RS Spyder. A solid performance in the remaining ALMS rounds could help give Pickett another chance at the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic next June.

With his return to the ALMS, Pickett will get the chance to race his son-in-law Scott Sharp years after the two held many hotly contested battles in the Trans-Am series. Pickett's Muscle Milk brand also served as a sponsor of Sharp's Indy 500 entry last month.
