Fresh off the LMP2 class victory at the Twelve Hours of Sebring, Ryan Dalziel will team with Alex Popow in CORE autosport’s No. 05 Oreca FLM09 for next weekend’s Grand Prix of Long Beach.

SPEED.com can confirm that the rapid Scot will rejoin the 2011 American Le Mans Series PC champions, which kicked off its title defense with a class victory at Sebring with Popow and co-drivers EJ Viso and Burt Frisselle.

With Viso concentrating on IndyCar duty at Long Beach, it opened the door for Dalziel, who made two starts with CORE last year, to jump back into the seat of the spec-prototype.

“I’m really excited to be back with CORE autosport,” Dalziel said. “Everyone knows that I had a good relationship with the team last year and we were working hard to find a way to work together in 2012.

“Due to my other commitments [FIA World Endurance Championship] we couldn’t make it work full-time, but I’m really happy to be working with the team in Long Beach, one of my favorite venues.”

This event marks the tenth anniversary of Dalziel’s U.S. racing debut in the U.S. His first was at Long Beach in 2002, driving a Toyota Atlantic machine for Michael Shank Racing.

“Long Beach was my first race ever in the U.S. and when I saw it for the first time I knew it was the Monoco of the U.S.,” he said  “It really opened up my eyes as to how great U.S. racing can be with the combination of venue, course layout and fans, and really bolstered my decision to keep racing in the U.S.  I’ve made sure to return to Long Beach whether I was driving or not.”

Dalziel and Popow are no strangers to each other, having been teammates in Starworks Motorsport’s GRAND-AM programs since last year. The duo also co-drove a United Autosports Audi R8 LMS in this year’s 24 Hours of Dubai and Gulf 12 Hours, finishing on the podium in Abu Dhabi.

They backed it up with another podium in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona in the debut of Starworks’ new Riley-Ford.

“Having Ryan as my co-driver gives me confidence, as I have never raced on the streets of Long Beach before,” Popow said. “I know he knows the track really well, definitely knows the car and he has a great relationship with CORE autosport – all good things for success.”

While Popow is on-board for the ALMS season, his co-drivers for the remainder of the year has yet to be decided. Viso will likely fill the seat in the non-conflicting IndyCar rounds, while Dalziel could also return for additional races, schedule permitting.

The team’s No. 06 entry, which finished third at Sebring, will continue to be piloted in the hands of Colin Braun and team principal Jon Bennett, which finished third at Sebring.
