Another recent topic of discussion has been the drive time requirements and it’s potential impact on the P2 class later this year. Level 5 Motorsports has yet to commit to a full season due to a 60-minute minimum seat time required for a Bronze or Silver-rated P2 driver in a two-hour and 45-minute race.

The current format would make it difficult for Level 5 owner/driver Scott Tucker to achieve the minimum time in two cars for a typical length race, according to team manager David Stone. Next weekend’s season-opener has a three-hour and 15-minute minimum, which is much more doable.

Stone proposed a 20 percent minimum drive time rule for P2 across all race lengths, but that request was denied by IMSA.

"We've worked on this drive time issue for the first two years we started using it," Elkins said. "We've got it to a point where we feel very confident that the bulk of the competitors all appreciate what we've done, and that's keep the Bronze or Silver driver in the car for a longer period of time. That's what the request has been.

"In those specific classes where we require that, it makes sense to keep that guy in the car. We're very happy with it. We feel that it's been developed to the point of... Nothing's ever perfect, but we're very happy with what it is and I think the rest of the paddock is very happy with where it is. There's no reason to change it."

Level 5 is only officially committed to a two-car effort at Sebring, with no present plans in the ALMS beyond the season-opener. Tucker, however, plans to field a single HPD ARX-03b entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
