The final pieces of BMW's sports car racing puzzle were put into place Friday, as the Bavarian manufacturer announced that Jorg Muller and Uwe Alzen will join BMW Team RLL for its American Le Mans Series title defense.

Additionally, Joey Hand, who was signed to BMW's new DTM program, will contest the non-conflicting ALMS rounds with the German Touring Car championship, while Dirk Werner, who joined the Bobby Rahal-led squad in 2011, has been selected as the sixth and final driver for its DTM effort.

Both Bill Auberlen and Dirk Muller will return to the squad as the team embarks on its fourth ALMS season in the highly competitive GT category.

"The co-operation with Dirk Müller, Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen has been very successful in recent years, and I am delighted that they will also be racing with us in 2012," Rahal explained. "Jörg Müller has already won the ALMS Driver’s championship and he and Uwe Alzen will strengthen our team."

Exact driver lineups have yet to be announced, other than Auberlen, Jorg Muller and Dirk Muller slated for a full-season, with Alzen scheduled for the enduros at Sebring and Petit Le Mans.

A sixth driver, expected to to take part in the two long-distance races as well as the races Hand will be forced to miss, is expected to be announced shortly.

“After winning all three titles in the GT class, BMW Team RLL will now start as the defending champion in the American Le Mans Series in 2012," said BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt.

"We line up with the BMW M3 GT against the strong competition in this thrilling championship for the fourth time. Our goal is obviously to successfully defend the titles. The driver line-up certainly gives us every chance to achieve that goal."
