In wild fight on the streets of Baltimore, Level 5 Motorsports scored its first-ever overall American Le Mans Series victory and 1-2 finish in Saturday's Baltimore Sports Car Challenge.

Christophe Bouchut took the No. 055 HPD ARX-03b to a 2.158-second victory over the team's sister No. 95 entry of Luis Diaz, in what was the first outright victory for P2 class car in four years.

Having held firm grip of the P2 class due to an early race penalty for the Conquest Endurance Morgan-Nissan, Bouchut grabbed the outright lead from teammate Diaz with 18 minutes to go following the third full-course caution of the race.

From there, it was clear sailing for the Frenchman, despite another late yellow and a challenging Ryan Dalziel in the No. 06 CORE autosport Oreca FLM09, who finished third overall and first in PC.

"When I started the race, my goal was to win. But I was not thinking about winning overall," Bouchut said. "Winning overall, the first time for us and for Level 5, a 1-2 [finish]. What else could we expect? It was a wonderful day."

The win for Bouchut and Tucker, both their first overall in series' history, also came as a good points day, as the duo extended their championship lead over Conquest's David Heinemeier Hansson and Martin Plowman, who suffered suspension failure with less than 20 minutes to go.

"It's definitely a little insurance for us," Tucker said. "We had a disappointing day at Road America and we had a pretty good lead going there. This is the time of the season where [everything] comes into play. We feel like we have some good strength there.

"Getting P1 and P2 overall and winning the Green X Challenge and Christophe being on the pole. We'll be putting this in a bottle and saving it."

Level 5 capitalized on misfortunes from all three P1-class contenders.

The pole-sitting No. 6 Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03a of Klaus Graf lost six laps early due to a gearbox actuator issue, while Chris Dyson suffered a spin early in his No. 16 Lola B12/60 Mazda before making a lengthy stop for right-front suspension problems.

Dyson's grandfathered Lola-Mazda of Eric Lux and Michael Marsal led overall at one point but suffered a pit lane infraction, dropping them to a 13th place overall result. It was still good enough to take top honors in P1, their first of the season.

Marsal was also a part of the opening lap melee. The car's fire extinguisher bottle went off on the grid, allegedly triggered by a fan, which made for a frantic few minutes to source a replacement and make the start.

The No. 16 machine of Dyson and co-driver Guy Smith finished 23rd overall, one position ahead of the Muscle Milk HPD of Lucas Luhr and Graf, who made matters worse by slamming into the wall in the closing minutes.
