Muscle Milk Pickett Racing led the way in a rain-soaked practice, the one-and-only session prior to Saturday's Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach.

The No. 6 HPD ARX-03a of Lucas Luhr topped the time charts with a best time of 1:33.121. It was 0.527 seconds faster than Kyle Marcelli's No. 8 Merchant Services Racing Oreca FLM09, which wound up leading the PC class and good enough for second quickest overall.

Martin Plowman reeled off a 1:33.875 lap time in his Conquest Endurance Morgan-Nissan late in the two-hour session to go quickest in P2 and third quickest on the overall time sheets.

Making it four different classes in the top-four overall was the No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Wolf Henzler, thanks to the German's 1:33.964 lap time in his GT-class contender, which won on the streets of Baltimore last year.

Amazingly, Henzler's time was less than one-second off the overall pace-setting Muscle Milk HPD.

All 33 cars set time in the wet session, which saw three red flags.

Emilio Di Guida's TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car ended up in the Turn 3 barriers early on, while the No. 54 Black Swan Lola B11/80 Honda of Tim Pappas made contact with a wall, which brought out the second red.

The third red was for the No. 7 Merchant Services PC machine, which apparently stopped on course.

Drivers battled varying levels of standing water around the 1.9-mile, 11-turn circuit, but conditions improved towards the closing minutes of the session.

Forecasts currently call for an 80 percent chance of rain for qualifying, which gets underway at 5 p.m. PT. IMSA COO Scot Elkins told SPEED.com that qualifying will run rain or shine, unless monsoon-like conditions are present.

RESULTS: Practice 1
