John Dagys takes a team-by-team look at the P1, P2 and PC contenders in this year’s Twelve Hours of Sebring (Live! 10:30 a.m. ET, SPEED)...

THE CONTENDERS:
CORE autosport: The two-time and defending class champions are back for more, but this time only with a single-car PC effort, as the they ramp up efforts to debut a GT-class Porsche 911 GT3 RSR later this season. With a sole focus on the No. 05 Oreca FLM09 of Jon Bennett, Colin Braun and Mark Wilkins, the South Carolina-based squad head in as favorites once again for the class victory as they chase two in a row at Sebring.

BAR1 Motorsports: One of the revelations of 2013, the Brian Alder-led squad has come out in full force with two stacked driving squads, led by Kyle Marcelli, Chris Cumming and Stefan Johansson in the No. 8 entry, and Rusty Mitchell, Tomy Drissi and Chapman Ducote aboard the No. 7 machine.
While yet to break through for its first class victory, Sebring could very well play into their cards, especially considering the competition level in the spec prototype category this weekend.
RSR Racing: Often one of the quickest cars last season while in the hands of Bruno Junqueira, the Paul Gentilozzi-led squad is expected to put up another strong fight, especially with the signing of reigning class champion, Alex Popow. The Venezuelan, who satisfies the Silver-rated requirement, knows how to get to victory lane at Sebring, having taken top honors here one year ago.
Rounding out the driving force is Duncan Ende, a late addition, who replaced four-time Motorcycle World Champion Eddie Lawson, who tested the car earlier this week.
THE SPOILERS:
Performance Tech Motorsports: Resurfacing for a planned full-season attack, the Florida-based squad has the potential for success with its sleeper lineup of reigning IMSA Lites champion Tristan Nunez, Charlie Shears and David Heinemeier Hansson, who makes a one-off run following his impressive rookie season in P2 last year.
If the keep the car on track, and drivers keep it out of the wall, Performance Tech could be in good shape come 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports: One of the most experienced PC teams returns for another go, with a steady, but not necessarily spectacular squad as seen in years’ past. Chinese-born racer David Cheng leads the driving force for the season alongside Michael Guasch and is joined this weekend by open-wheel ace David Ostella, who makes his sports car racing debut.
A podium finish could very well be in the cards for the hard working squad, led by Bobby Oergel, who prepares its ALMS entries to the highest level. It’s just this time around, the overall driving talent in one or two of the other entries may be tough to match.
DragonSpeed Mishumotors: Newcomers to the spec prototype ranks, the Elton Julian-owned squad has taken on a partial season PC program, thanks to the collaborative effort of Micro Schultis, who has brought his two Oreca FLM09 cars Stateside for some action. Teaming with fellow German Patrick Simon and sports car ace Pierre Kaffer, the DragonSpeed Mishumotors is not likely to factor into the fight for the class win, but will no doubt be one of the quickest in the field with Kaffer at the wheel.
