Marco Werner and Lucas Luhr earned their 6th LMP1 victory at Elkhart Lake from seven ALMS races this season, but it took a spirited fight from Jon Field in his Intersport Lola and a few dramatic passes on restarts to spray champagne at the 4.0 mile Wisconsin track.
Enjoy the viewers guide below and the amazing in-car sights and sounds of the world's most successful diesel sportscar team.
(:07-:17)It’s interesting to watch Lucas gauge when to start accelerating by looking in his mirrors. It works as he successfully leads into turn 1. (:27-:30)Tire pressures are low, the ride height is low, and there’s a bit too much downforce on the R10. The Jabroc strike plates slap against the road at maximum downforce and then again under braking when the nose is heavy. (:55-1:00)More of the same bottoming. Lucas has to be cautious until the tires are hot and fully inflated. Luhr’s hands shake and bounce as the steering wheel shakes and bounces… (1:41)A bottoming chassis at the apex of the famous (and brutally fast) ‘Kink’ would cause most people to have a heart attack. Scary stuff.

(2:27-2:39)A wild restart. The Highcroft car barely squeezes through a gap as the Vici Porsche pulls right… (2:27-4:27)Luhr passes 11 cars—a third of the field—in one lap. (4:28-12:12)Best fight of the race—Jon Field leading the race in his twin-turbo Lola-AER V8 with Luhr on the hunt in his Audi R10 TDI. Thank goodness for the Intersport team—this is gripping stuff to watch as Jon leaves nothing on the table. The V8 sounds great and makes good power too, doesn’t it? (12:13-12:35)Another wild restart as Werner gets moved onto the grass by the #71 Ferrari. (14:18-14:28)It’s an LMP2 logjam on the front straight.
