ALMS Video: In-Car Theater Lime Rock, Andretti/Montagny Acura LMP2

Watch Marco Andretti and Franck Montagny carve through the field at the bullring known as Lime Rock from last weekends' Northeast Grand Prix. ยป More Photos

Franck Montagny had a less than easy introduction to the American Le Mans Series last weekend after being forced to start last when his driving partner Marco Andretti was unable to log practice time in the car before the race. Driving in the Nashville IRL race on the same weekend, Marco would first set foot in his Andretti-Green Acura ARX-01b on Saturday morning, just hours before the race.

With his Nashville race on his plate for Saturday evening, Marco was chosen to start the Lime Rock race in a bid to get him on his Tennessee-bound helicopter once he handed over to Montagny. What resulted from Marco's opening stanza was a mildly terrifying window into the restrictive nature of the redesigned Lime Rock track, the excessive traffic is produced, and the daring passes young Andretti was forced to execute in his march to the front of the field.

Handing over to Montagny would only make things more harrowing as the Frenchman, making use of his extended track time at the 1.5mi Connecticut track, began carving through the field at an incredibly impressive rate. That's not to say there weren't a few moments of anguish and elevated blood pressure along the way, but ultimately, Franck brought the #26 XM Satellite Radio machine 6th overall, and 5th place in class. Expect big things from Montagny this weekend when he's able to start towards the front of the pack.

As always, enjoy our pithy viewing guide to get the most out of the ALMS-presented In-Car Theater experience.

(0:06) Visor down, Marco!
(0:16-0:32) Starting on the back row in a fast car looks like fun.
(0:34) Until you get passed by an LMP1 car and have one more driver to worry about.
(0:44) The race is thirty seconds old and traffic is already a nightmare.
(1:12) Is it just me, or does that GT2 Porsche look
to have an incredibly wide rear wing?
(1:44) Traffic…
(2:07) How much dirt do you think each driver ingested at Lime Rock?
(2:42) Nice save!
(2:54) Marco is mighty through the first chicane.
(3:03) I love this camera angle
(3:50) The bursts of unspent fuel out of the exhausts add to the imagery.
(4:18-4:26) Marco has a new arch nemesis in the LMP1 car…
(4:27-4:35) And Chris Dyson takes full advantage.
(5:01) That was close!
(5:52) Mazda, meet the apex, apex, meet the Mazda.
(6:14-6:42) GT2 hunting season is officially open.
(7:27) Marco appears the ‘thank’ the Porsche driver for managing to occupy all of the available road at the same time.
(8:12-8:22) I thought you weren’t supposed to improve your position by skipping the chicane…?...
(8:39) The arch nemesis is back…
(9:34) While not as fun as ‘Hammer Time,’ ‘Montagny Time’ is now in effect.
(9:58) Nice move by Dyson.
(10:50) Racing is made that much harder when groups of cars get together and try to crash into one another.
(11:40) It seems Marco’s arch nemesis is also Franck’s arch nemesis…
(12:46) Franck and Brabham seem relatively equally matched.
(13:46) Corvette’s have a lot of horsepower.
(14:00-14:08) Corvette’s have a lot of horsepower
(14:10-16:23) After two hours of racing, we have our first few clear-ish laps of racing.
(16:36) Audi’s are still fast.
(17:50-17:58) A well deserved 5th for Franck and Marco.
