A summer rating’s spike encompassing the last four, live ARCA Racing Series broadcasts have helped increase SPEED’s overall household audience for the series by 18% (.52 vs. .44) year over year. Per race total viewership (P2+ impressions) has jumped by 23%, touching 551,000 viewers, an increase of 104,000 over 2011.

Heightened attention on the Midwest-based national touring series has set the table for Friday’s fete at Lucas Oil Raceway, kicking off stock car racing’s big weekend in Indianapolis, with live coverage on SPEED starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Heading this ratings surge was this past weekend’s Chicagoland Speedway telecast, topping last year’s numbers by 150% (.50 to .20), bolstered by audience increases in the key demographic of men aged 35-54 by 50% (.50 to .40) and M18-49 by 47% (.28 to .19). The race’s total viewership increased by 30% overall, equaling 485,000 viewers, up 111,000 over 2011.

Not to be outdone, the previous week’s ARCA Racing Series event from Iowa Speedway topped 2011 numbers by 113% (.34 to .16), as total viewership increased from 164,000 to 374,000, while key demos were +300% with M35-54 and +100% with M18-49.

Additionally, the Michigan International Speedway race on June 15 was up 3% (.33 to .32) in households; +23% with M35-54 (.27 to .22) and +100% with M18-49 (.20 to .10). The June 9 Pocono telecast was also strong, boasting a 42% ratings increase (.44 to .31) in households; a 100% increase with M35-54 (.34 to .17) and +45% with M18-49 (.16 to .11). In all, the Pocono race reached 408,000 total viewer households, besting 297,000 from the year before.

“ARCA and SPEED have worked together for well over a decade to establish with viewers that SPEED is the home for televised events featuring the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards,” said ARCA President Ron Drager. “It’s gratifying to see that, in direct back-to-back comparisons of events in 2011 and 2012 at Pocono, Michigan, Iowa & Chicago, ratings have increased for all four races.
“Everyone at ARCA and all the race teams are working hard to make our on-track product the best that it can be, and SPEED’s presentation of the racing in our series is providing viewers with a rewarding experience,” Drager continued. “That’s reflected in these numbers.”

Long-time SPEED play-by-play voice Rick Allen and stock car analyst Phil Parsons lead the broadcast booth for Friday’s Lucas Oil Raceway show, while Jim Tretow and Ray Dunlap are set to provide all the insights and updates from pit road.

A stirring point’s battle is shaping up in the series, as current points leader Chris Buescher, runner-up Brennan Poole, Alex Bowman and series stalwart Frank Kimmel are all within 100 points of the championship lead.
