Rich Bickle rolled to a sixth-place finish in the star-studded All Star Challenge super late model stock car race Tuesday night at Madison International Speedway. The event, which featured top NASCAR stars Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch, drew more than 8,000 fans to the Oregon, WI raceway.
“We had a really good car, but the driver decided to run our air pressures too low in both segments,” said Bickle. “It would take too much time for the tires to come up to pressure after a restart. It just took us too long to get going. Once we did, we were just about the fastest car on the racetrack. If we would have run 100-laps straight, we would have killed them.”
Bickle’s No. 45 Perlick Chevrolet Monte Carlo started the 24-car, 100-lap main event from the seventh position after posting a lap of 17.72 in qualifying.

Bickle stayed in the Top-10 throughout the first 50-lap segment before pitting with the rest of the field at the half-way break. Despite more adjustments, Bickle couldn’t get his car to perform in the early stages of the second segment.
“We went up on air pressure at the 50-lap break and we still didn’t get it right,” Bickle stated. “I wound up losing five or six spots in the restart before the tires came up to pressure. We were able to race back by those guys and I might have had something for the leaders at the end, but we got that caution with 12 laps to go and that kind of killed our chances. If I don’t screw up the air pressure, we battle for the win and finish no worse than second or third.”
