Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host a press conference Monday afternoon during which Richard Petty Motorsports is expected to announce that it will field a car for John Andretti in the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500.

An RPM team spokesman at Texas Motor Speedway Friday would neither confirm nor deny that the team would enter the 500 with Andretti, who provided the now-defunct Petty Enterprises with its last NASCAR Sprint Cup victory in 1999 at Martinsville Speedway. Rumors heard from both Texas and the St. Petersburg IndyCar paddocks have a few sponsors Andretti's found ready fund the RPM entry. It's also believed veteran IRL team Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will run the program on RPM's behalf.

According to a press release issued on Friday, “The NASCAR team owner will make his debut as a car owner for this year’s Indy 500. On May 24, the owner will join past Indy 500-winning team owners Roger Penske and Chip Ganassi as the only team principals with entries in both Memorial Day racing classics, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte.

“The team owner also will announce the driver and major sponsor of his Indy 500 entry in Monday’s press conference,” the release continued. “The unveiling of the new entry will be part of the press conference as well as interviews with the team’s participants.”
