J.C. France, the 43-year-old son of NASCAR Vice Chairman Jim France and a driver in NASCAR’s Grand-Am road-racing circuit, was suspended from competition Thursday following his arrest early Thursday morning on charges of driving under the influence and alleged possession of cocaine.

The grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. was stopped after driving over a bridge in Daytona Beach at a high rate of speed in a 2007 green Lamborghini, according to a police report. He failed a field sobriety test, refused to take a breath test and was found in possession of 2.3 grams of a white cake-like substance that tested positive for cocaine, according to the police report.

“Grand Am has issued a penalty notice and suspended J.C. indefinitely from all competition for actions detrimental to racing,” Grand-Am spokesman Ramsey Poston said. “The penalty is not appealable. JC is being treated like any other competitor. His suspension is immediate and indefinite. “

J.C. France does not have a leadership role in NASCAR. Jim France is the uncle of NASCAR Chairman Brian France.
