When we get here on race week, it's a day-by-day undertaking. From the production side of things, they make sure that all of the taped pieces are together. We make sure we're out there ferreting around, getting as much together as we can. Then we collaborate.

There are production meetings, particularly for the beginning and end of the show. We do those to make sure everyone's on the same page so they know each of their individual role is. We all have our own objectives of what we'd like to achieve, personally, but you then net it together with the team. It's quite an interesting process, particularly on these longer races.

With the three-hour time slot we normally do on a traditional GRAND-AM race, it's a very quick "top of the show" because you're into the race pretty much straight away. The two-hour and 45-minute or three-hour races have a very familiar feel about them. There's continuity and kind of a similar flow those races. But the Rolex 24 is like multiple ones of those stitched together!

Certainly from my perspective, you have to search for something different when calling the Rolex 24. You can't just get caught in the same groove. You have to look for something different in order to keep your own energy going. It helps that we have two teams of people covering this race, so you know that you have to perform for X amount of hours and then you're going to get a break and be fresh and try and stay on top of that ever-unfolding story.

I wouldn't say it's incredibly different, other than how you approach how you're going to get through the race. Whether it'd be Dorsey drinking a lot of Diet Coke or Calvin loving his coffee, we all have our own idiosyncrasies.

It's also very hard for the production team in the truck where our director doesn't get to take a break. This year when we come on-air at 2:30 p.m. and we're not off-air until 11 p.m., that's a long time for him to go without a bathroom break or a mental or physical break.

But in the end, when we’re able to get through the 24-hour race, plus the pre and post-race shows, it’s always a sense of accomplishment knowing that we put our best foot forward, in what’s undoubtedly one of the most grueling and uniquely challenging undertakings each year.
