Seven cars from the European Le Mans Series will take part in the Petit Le Mans, which will serve as the season finales for both the ELMS and the American Le Mans Series.

ELMS organizers released its entry list Friday, featuring five LMP2 teams and two GTE-Am contenders. It's believed up to 14 cars were invited to participate in the 1,000-mile/10-hour enduro at Road Atlanta, which included a travel assistance package from the ACO.

Of the entries confirming their presence, four (Status GP, Murphy Prototypes, Thiriet by TDS Racing and IMSA Performance Matmut) will be making their debuts on U.S. soil.

Announced last month following the cancellation of the Brno and Algarve rounds due to low car count, the ELMS finale will be a double points-scoring round.

And with no GTE-Pro entry present, it's believed that only two automatic invites for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours will now be up for grabs. Regulations state that an entrant must participate in every round of the championship to be eligible for the entry.

The ELMS cars will join what's expected to be no fewer than 36 full-season ALMS teams, plus likely additional one-off entries for the Oct. 17-20 event. A maximum of 53 cars will be allowed to start.

Despite the shorted season, with only two rounds having been held in Europe, including one race with a 13-car grid, ELMS organizers are still pushing ahead for plans of a championship for next year.

"The organizers are now working on the future of the ELMS, which is one of the crucial steps for training teams and drivers who want to reach the heights of endurance, namely: the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours," a statement from the ELMS reads.

"The outcome of these discussions will be a proposal that will be announced in September with the format and calendar of the 2013 season."
