ELMS: TDS Oreca-Nissan On Paul Ricard Pole

Thiriet by TDS Racing will start Sunday's European Le Mans Series season-opening Six Hours of Le Castellet from the overall pole, following a quick lap laid down by Mathias Beche in qualifying today at Paul Ricard.
The Swiss driver turned a best time of 1:48.171 lap time in his No. 46 Oreca 03 Nissan, edging out the brand-new Status GP Lola B12/80 Judd of Yelmer Buurman by 0.311 seconds.
Defending ELMS champions Greaves Motorsport slotted in third quickest, with Tom Kimber-Smith reeling off a 1:48.882 in his Zytek Z11SN. The No. 24 OAK Racing Morgan-Judd of Guillaume Moreau and the Pierre Kaffer-driven Pecom Racing Oreca 03 Nissan rounded out the top-five overall and in LMP2, the new top class in the series for 2012.
GTE-Pro saw Jaime Melo take class pole in the No. 83 JMB Racing Ferrari F458 Italia. The Brazilian's 1:57.630 lap time was nearly one-second faster than the No. 66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari of James Walker, who wound up second in class, but fourth overall among the GTE-class runners.
Sandwiched in between the two leading GTE-Pro entries was the No. 75 Prospeed Competition Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Marc Goossens and Nicolas Armindo's IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche, which qualified 1-2 in GTE-Am.
Massimo Vignali took the LMPC class pole in his Boutsen Ginon Racing Oreca FLM09.
Twenty one entries are expected to start Sunday's ELMS opener, which is set to get underway at 11 a.m. local (5 a.m. ET).
