The 2008 season of the FIA GT Championship got off to an amazing start with an action-packed two-hour race at Silverstone, where Jetalliance drivers Sharp and Wendlinger won the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, and became the latest drivers to earn the right to have their names inscribed alongside those of the past Motorsport heroes.
Starting in the rain and fog, with conditions improving gradually, tyre choice –and the time to change to intermediates and then slicks - became vitally important. A late safety car period closed up the frontrunners, resulting in a breath-taking finish, with the top eight within eight seconds six laps from the end. In GT2, AF Corse were victorious, with Toni Vilander and Gianmaria Bruni, who made an excellent start in the nr 50 Ferrari 430 GT2. New team CR Scuderia started their FIA GT career with a podium for Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell in the nr 56 Ferrari 430 GT2, with BMS Scuderia Italia also managing a podium finish for their debut with the Ferrari 430 GT2, for Paolo Ruberti and Matteo Malucelli.
AT Racing was victorious in the Citation Cup, with the Corvette C5 of Alexander Talkanitsa, while G2 was won by the GTO Charouz Mosler MT900 of Kenneth Heyer and Stepan Vojtech.
