In its quest to win the inaugural North American Endurance Championship, Starworks Motorsport has added Sebastien Bourdais to its driving force for this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The open-wheel and sports car ace will join Ryan Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio, fresh off their LMP2 class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the team’s No. 8 Riley-Ford, which sits second in the overall Daytona Prototype championship standings and also in the NAEC title race.

"I think it really says how determined we are to try and get a result here at The Glen," team owner Peter Baron said. "We were already working on our plans for the Daytona 24 Hours [next year] and trying to put together optimal lineups.

“We had Bourdais on our radar screen and thought it was [good]. The guy is incredibly fast. He knows these cars a bit and knows the track. For us, he was the best person to put in the car to work on bringing forward our [Rolex] 24 program as well as winning this race here."

Starworks had initially looked at placing Stephane Sarrazin, its third driver in the six-hour long FIA WEC races, in the seat. However, Baron said the ex-Peugeot star was discovered to have sustained fractured vertebrae from his biking accident at the Le Mans Test Day weekend, which has ruled him out of racing for the next month.

Nonetheless, the addition of the four-time Champ Car champion to the the team’s lineup gives Dalziel and Potolicchio a considerable boost in the search of their first Rolex Series victory of the season.

"I've known [Sebastien] since back in the Champ Car days and we're really looking forward to having him in the car,” Dalziel added. “We're not going to Watkins Glen to make up the numbers; we're going to win. We think that Bourdais is going to be a real excellent choice for us."

Bourdais has been through a turbulent 2012 IndyCar season, having recorded only a single top-10 finish in six starts with Dragon Racing, which began the season with Lotus power. The Frenchman is slated to complete the road course races with the Jay Penske-owned team, now running with Chevy engines.

Baron said the team’s No. 2 Riley-Ford will continue with the two-driver approach of Lucas Luhr and Alex Popow, with Mark Wilkins joining Colin Braun and Scott Mayer in the No. 7 entry, which is one of only two Gen-2 DPs expected this weekend.
