History will be made Tuesday, as the first contemporary Le Mans Prototype car will turn laps at Daytona International Speedway, in a crucial step in the unification process between the American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM.

The No. 37 Conquest Endurance Morgan-Nissan prototype, fresh off last month's ALMS season-ending Petit Le Mans, will be wheeled around the famed 3.56-mile oval/road course by team regular Martin Plowman.

The P2 class contender will provide data as an initial step towards building the class structure for the unified sports car championship, which is set to launch in 2014.

Plowman's Morgan-Nissan will be joined by 19 cars from the Rolex Series, including eight Daytona Prototypes and 11 production-based GT cars, which are entered for two full days of on-track activities. It will mark the final open test prior to the annual Roar Before The Rolex 24 on Jan. 4-6.

Defending Rolex 24 winners Michael Shank Racing are among the entries in DP, along with Corvettes fielded by GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, Action Express Racing and Spirit of Daytona.

The test will also see the public debut of Team Sahlen's Riley-BMWs.

In GT, AIM Autosport Team FXDD will have two Ferrari 458 Italias, although one run by Michelotto for factory drivers Gianmaria Bruni, Olivier Beretta and reigning Rolex Series GT champion Jeff Segal.

Five-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Frank Biela will be at the controls of an Audi of America-entered Audi R8 GRAND-AM car.

Testing will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 5 p.m. on both days.
