What a difference a race can make. After getting taken out of a podium-contending position at Indy, which led to his season-long co-driver withdrawing from the series, Ryan Dalziel turned his GRAND-AM season around with a win Saturday at Watkins Glen, leading a Starworks Motorsport 1-2 in the Continental Tire 200.

Dalziel took his No. 8 Riley-Ford to a 0.817-sec victory over teammate Sebastien Bourdais, in what turned into a historic day for the Peter Baron-led organization.

Paired for the two-hour race with Lucas Luhr, following a turbulent week which saw regular co-driver Enzo Potolicchio leave the series, the rapid Scot took over the lead following the final round of green flag pit stops.

Not even a late-race yellow would get in Dalziel's way of victory today, his first of the season, which has put him within six points of the Daytona Prototype championship lead.

"Thanks so much to Enzo for putting us out there and having some faith in Lucas and me. What a way to bounce back," Dalziel said. "It's just unbelievable from these guys. We knew for the last couple of races, we've been knocking on the door. We needed this really badly today. It's sweet redemption."

Luhr, who started the season in the team's No. 2 Riley-Ford, was a late call-up following the decision by Potolicchio to support the team's championship-seeking effort, despite his highly publicized departure on Tuesday.

"Everyone knows the team has been through some tough teams this week," said Luhr, who earned his first career DP victory. "Now, Ryan and I together for the first time, [and we get] the victory. It's a great day for us."

Bourdais and co-driver Alex Popow rebounded from a problem with the driver change late in the opening hour to finish second, thanks to the Frenchman's impressive drive through the field, which put him within 10 seconds of Dalziel prior to the late yellow.

"We had very identical cars," Bourdais said. "For sure he was being a little conservative. He had a big lead. I wasn't pushing like crazy either as it felt like it was too big of a margin. It was a great day, I'm just happy for the whole team."

It also came as a good points day for the Venezuelan Popow, who has closed to within 21 points of championship leaders Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas. The Ganassi Riley-BMW duo finished third in the race.

The pole-sitting No. 10 SunTrust Racing Corvette of Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli came home fourth, with Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty's No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette completing the top-five.

Both of the Action Express Corvettes had trouble, with the title-contending No. 9 machine of Darren Law making contact with the No. 40 Dempsey Racing Mazda of Joe Foster early, which resulted in the first yellow and heavily damaging both cars.

The team's No. 5 machine of David Donohue and debutant Jordan Taylor, meanwhile, looked to be in podium contention but contact with the No. 73 Horton Autosport Porsche late in the running resulted in a penalty for Donohue, relegating them to a sixth place result.

Bad luck continued for Spirit of Daytona, this time a double axle failure for Antonio Garcia on the second lap, while the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford of Ozz Negri led at one stage, only to suffer a right-front tire puncture while in third. It resulted in a seventh place finish for the Brazilian ace and John Pew.
