GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing ended the opening day of activities at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca quickest, as GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series teams prepare for Sunday's Continental Tire Sports Car Festival.

The No. 99 Corvette DP of Alex Gurney recorded a best time of 1:21.285 in Friday's second practice session, which wound up quickest of the day.

“We have been in this position before, so it strangely doesn’t feel that good actually, the car has been fast on Fridays a lot and now we just have to seal the deal, but so far so good,” said Gurney, who shares driving duties of the "Red Dragon" with Jon Fogarty.

Defending Daytona Prototype champions and current point leaders Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas were second on the time charts, thanks to a 1:21.557 recorded by the No. 01 Riley-BMW.

Two of Starworks Motorsport's Riley-Fords slotted in third and fourth quickest, with Ryan Dalziel peddling the No. 8 entry to a 1:21.903 in the 60-minute afternoon session.

Colin Braun's 1:22.201 lap time set in the morning session, however, stood as fourth best on the day.

The No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP of Antonio Garcia and Richard Westbrook completed the top-five overall and in class.

GT saw an all-Ferrari affair, with factory driver Olivier Beretta quickest in the afternoon, but Johannes van Overbeek's 1:27.721 lap time from the morning ending up quickest of the day.

Van Overbeek, who will share his No. 03 Ferrari F458 Italia Grand Am with Mike Hedlund, edged out Beretta and Alessandro Balzan's Scuderia Corsa entry by a mere 0.014 seconds.

Both times were from the morning session.

The No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW of Bill Auberlen, Paul Dalla Lana and Billy Johnson completed the top-three in class.

A final 20-minute practice session is on tap for tomorrow morning, followed by qualifying, beginning at 2:25 p.m. ET.

RESULTS: Practice 2
