GRAND-AM: James Hunt, “Time to Invest in ‘The Business”
Written by: James Hunt

Whenever I hear a race car I get a tingly sensation throughout my entire body, the energy just surges up through me to the point where I wan to let out a big “YEEAHHHH” and then get behind the wheel. (Photo: James Hunt) » More Photos

The momentum pendulum has finally started to swing in the right direction! These past two weeks have been extremely exciting for me, despite facing an abundance of adversity. Fortunately for me, however, maintaining a positive attitude at all costs and refusing to say “uncle” seems to be working.

A few days ago, my Dad said something that really had an impact on me. He said, “The truly amazing and successful people in life are the one’s that bounce back from being knocked down.” Now, more than ever, I know this to be true. It’s easy to enjoy life during the good times; the true test of a person’s willpower is how well they respond when faced with mounting difficulties.

Two weeks ago, I went down to the Long Beach Grand Prix for a weekend of great racing! Sadly, the Long Beach Grand Prix officially marked the end of Champ Car as we know it (Champ Car and the IRL have joined forces). Hopefully this unification will help breathe some life back into open wheel racing in North America!

While at the Grand Prix, I met up with
a few friends who work on a Champ Car team and had a great time cheering them on to a solid 3rd place finish. I also had the opportunity to enjoy the SPEED World Challenge GT race. I was rooting for my friend Randy Pobst who drove a spectacular race (he came in 2nd to a very formidable Mustang). Great job Randy!

Although the Long Beach Grand Prix was a nice break, I have been working tirelessly to keep things moving in the right direction on all fronts. This brings me to the theme of my latest piece: investing in “The Business”. On the downside, my cell phone bill has been astronomically high over the past few months (Houston, we have a problem…). But the really scary part is that I keep adding minutes to my plan thinking “that should be plenty,” but it never is. Recently, “that should be plenty” has turned into “who talks that much!?!” Nevertheless, I’m happy to report that good things are happening as a result of my loquacious business nature! Soon, I will be able to share some great news about future driving plans.
