Following its foray into the American Le Mans Series, Lotus will also be represented in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series next year with an Evora adapted to the new GX category rules.

The British manufacturer confirmed this week that it has built a GX-specific car that will initially race later this year in the GT category before moving to the series' new category for 2013.

McMahon Raceworks with Condor Motorsport have become the first team to place an order for the mid-engined sports car, powered by a 4.0-liter V6.

Based on its successful GT4-spec Evora GTC, the Evora GX features significant aerodynamic changes, including a new front splitter and bumper, along with the Rolex Series standard wing and enlarged wheel arches to fit the the series-specific Continental tire.

Additionally, both ABS and traction control have been removed, along with a revised fuel filler system.

The built-to-order car is priced at $335,000.

Lotus becomes the second manufacturer to commit to the new GX category, with Mazda having announced plans to support customer versions of its new SKYACTIV-D powerplant with a yet-to-be-announced car for 2013.
