Open-Wheel Vet Tracy Returns To Track With Local Neurosurgeon

Dr. Jim Lowe, the “world’s fastest neurosurgeon,” with offices in nearby Linwood, New Jersey, will co-drive with open-wheel star Paul Tracy in the Global Barter 250 presented by Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the No. 77 Combos Ford/Dallara Daytona Prototype fielded by Doran Racing.

Lowe and Tracy co-drove the car in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona, finishing seventh.

“I am absolutely thrilled to race again with Paul Tracy,” said Lowe, who lives in Villanova, Pa. “Any red-blooded racer would enjoy having a champion of such caliber as their co-driver whether an endurance race or a sprint event like New Jersey. Working with Paul at Daytona turned out to be an absolutely enjoyable experience. He is an exceptional guy, fun to hang out with, great to drive with, and excellent from a technical standpoint.”

Tracy was the 2003 Champ Car World Series titlist with 30 victories in major open-wheel competition. The pair also plan to co-drive the remainder of the North American Endurance Championship with races at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen on July 1 and the inaugural Super Weekend at the Brickyard on July 27 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This weekend’s event will benefit breast cancer research, with the track offering an array of VIP experiences through online auction in addition to other family activities and recognition for breast cancer survivors .

“We had a good run at the Rolex 24 and the team has had a chance to prepare for the upcoming races. I’m pleased to get back together with Jim for his hometown race at New Jersey,” said Tracy. “This is a track I have not yet driven, so I’m eager to learn the course on Thursday during the opening test day. I’m looking forward to a great weekend with Jim and Kevin and the rest of the Doran crew."

Philadelphia Native Eyes Second Consecutive Win In New Ferrari 458

Jeff Segal has a lot to be excited about as he returns to his home track this weekend. The Philadelphia native joined co-driver Emil Assentato in winning the recent Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway, giving the Ferrari 458 its first victory and capturing the GT class points lead in the process.

Segal and Assentato also finished second in the Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park in the No. 69 AIM Autosport Team FXDD Ferrari back in March, and hold a three-point lead in the Rolex Series GT point standings over Rolex 24 winners Andy Lally and John Potter.

Segal and Assentato have yet to win at New Jersey, but scored a podium during their 2010 GT championship season, finishing third in a SpeedSource Mazda RX-8.

Segal has raced in GRAND-AM since 2003. He is one of only two drivers (Craig Stanton the other) to win championships in both the Rolex Sports Car Series and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, scoring at least one win in the Rolex Series every year since 2008. Driving a Ferrari 458 in its first year of eligibility, Segal has wasted no time getting the European manufacturer atop the standings.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into this program getting the new Ferrari up to speed,” Segal said. “I hope we can continue our momentum in the upcoming races. We’re hoping that this is the start of a good run this season.”

New Jersey’s Donohue Has Momentum Following First Podium of Season

David Donohue – coming off his first podium finish of the season – will have plenty of momentum on his side this weekend when the Rolex Series returns to New Jersey Motorsports Park. The Newark, N.J. native co-drove with Darren Law to a third place finish in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP in the Grand Prix of Miami, and is looking to bring the new Corvette DP its third consecutive victory in the Global Barter 250 presented by Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia gave the Corvette DP its first victory for Spirit of Daytona at Barber Motorsports Park in March, while Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli won the most recent race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, driving for SunTrust Racing.

Donohue has enjoyed a successful career in GRAND-AM, racing in the series since its inception in 2000. The longtime Brumos Racing driver finished second in DP points in 2003 and won the 2009 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

The son of Mark Donohue – racing legend and 1972 Indianapolis 500 winner – Donohue moved up to sixth in the DP championship standings with his strong showing in the rain-soaked race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
