Scott Pruett was hospitalized with back pain after a heavy crash in practice for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 race at the new New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Pruett lost control of the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley.he shares with Memo Rojas and broadsided the guardrail at the entry to the pit lane. The car was split into two pieces and with the cockpit sliding down pit lane. He was unconscious for several minutes but regained consciousness as he was being loaded into the ambulance.
CGR team manager Tim Mead, who accompanied Pruett to the emergency room, reported that Scott was awake, alert and able to move all limbs, but complained of a lot of back and neck pain. ER doctors who performed the initial examination confirmed Scott was suffering from a concussion, but he showed no other apparent major trauma. He is being sent to cat-scan, X-ray, etc. for more tests. He will be admitted and held over night for further examination/observation.
Pruett and Rojas currently the lead the driver’s championship race in the Daytona Prototype class by 42 points over defending Daytona Prototype titlists Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty.
