Scott Pruett saved the best for last in qualifying at Watkins Glen, as the Chip Ganassi Racing driver stormed to the pole for Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen (11 a.m. ET, Live! SPEED).

The four-time GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series champion reeled off a best time of 1:41.309 late in the 15-minute session, knocking the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP of Antonio Garcia off the top spot with less than two minutes remaining.

Following last weekend's qualifying rain-out, which saw the points-leading No. 01 Riley-BMW of Pruett and co-driver Memo Rojas start from first, it marked the team's first official pole of the season.

"It was all we had," said Pruett, who scored his 14th career GRAND-AM pole and first since this race two years ago. "We rung every little ounce out of the car. We changed balance overnight and changed it this morning. We were already fine-tuning what we had going."

Garcia, who rebounded from a practice accident on Friday, wound up 0.290 seconds slower than Pruett. The Spaniard felt he had more in his Corvette DP if he hadn't elected to pit prior to Pruett's pole-winning lap.

"Unfortunately we lost almost one hour of practice yesterday because I [went into the gravel trap]," said Garcia, who will share driving duties with Richard Westbrook and Oliver Gavin on Sunday.

"I knew I could have probably gone for another one, knowing what the pole was at that time. Still, this is a six-hour race and we're on the front row."

Joao Barbosa took his No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP to third on the grid with a 1:41.667 lap time, with the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Corvette of Max Angelelli lining up fourth.

Both Corvette teams will be looking to rebound after suffering DNFs last weekend in Road America.

Alex Popow impressed at the wheel of the No. 2 Starworks Motorsport Riley-Ford, as the Pro-Am racer clocked the fifth quickest time, out-qualifying the likes of Action Express Racing's David Donohue and Jon Fogarty from GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing.

The Venezuelan-backed car, in the hands of co-driver Lucas Luhr, was quickest in the morning's practice session after rebounding from an accident in opening practice on Friday.
