Qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix of Miami, the third round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, has been canceled following a batch of heavy showers that blanketed Homestead-Miami Speedway this morning.

With the 2.3-mile circuit unable to dry in time for the 12:45 p.m. session, GRAND-AM officials scrubbed qualifying, with the grid being determined by points.

It gives the championship-leading No. 8 Starworks Motorsport Riley-Ford of Enzo Potolicchio and Ryan Dalziel the pole for tomorrow's two-hour and 45-minute race (1 p.m. Live! SPEED).

Potolicchio will be joined on the front row by John Pew, who along with Ozz Negri won January's 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona in their Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford.

With a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms tomorrow, many drivers, including Dalziel, are already preparing themselves for what could be a wet race.

"I think we were pleasantly surprised this morning from the first lap of how much grip we had on the [rain] tires," Dalziel said. "Aquaplaning was was as minimal as you can get when you have that much rain.

"Sometimes you go into a wet weekend and you're not really positive because so much can change... But I'm actually pretty confident that we can have a consistent car and have consistent tires and stay out front until the end."

Pew, who will take the green flag in the No. 60 MSR Riley-Ford, added: "Starting on the front row is a big advantage for us-- if it is going to be wet, it will be very important from a visibility point of view.

“I’m up for the challenge, but if it’s dry, it’s going to be about tire management - you’ve got to not over drive and not go crazy but still push really hard. You’ve got to use your head here and hopefully we are able to be not just quicker, but also have some smart strategy when it comes to how we make the most of the tires tomorrow.”

The No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP of Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia, winners last time out at Barber Motorsports Park, will line up third, with the No. 2 Starworks Riley-Ford of Alex Popow and Lucas Luhr, debuting the car's new-gen Riley bodywork, in fourth.

Defending Rolex Series champions and Grand Prix of Miami race winners Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas will start fifth in their Telmex Chip Gansssi Racing Riley-BMW.

In GT, the No. 44 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Andy Lally and John Potter will start from the pole, despite having battled engine issues for the past two races.

With a fresh Porsche powerplant installed since their latest failure during Thursday's promoter test day, Lally and Potter will be searching for their second victory of the season on Sunday.

The No. 59 Brumos Racing Porsche of Leh Keen and Andrew Davis will roll off second, ahead of Barber winners Sylvain Tremblay and Jonathan Bomarito in the No. 70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 in third.

One of the biggest losers from the qualifying wash-out was Extreme Speed Motorsports, which topped the time charts in Friday's practice but will start near the rear of the field due to points.
