Watkins Glen has been happy a hunting ground for SunTrust Racing, with the Wayne Taylor Racing squad having scored three victories in the last seven years on the upstate New York's short short course.

Ricky Taylor put the team's Corvette DP in prime position for its fourth tomorrow, having scored the pole for Saturday's Continental Tire 200 (6 p.m. ET, Live! SPEED).

The 23-year-old second-generation driver stormed to a best time of 1:06.039 in the dry 15-minute qualifying session. He edged out fellow Corvette driver Antonio Garcia for his second Daytona Prototype pole of the year.

“I think we have good cars here every time; every race we feel like we have a winning car,” said Taylor, who will share the No. 10 car with Max Angelelli. “At this year’s six-hour, we had a little misfortune in the race.

"But we’ve had such good cars here on a regular basis, and the car once again in qualifying today was really good."

Garcia peddled his No. 90 Corvette DP to a best time of 1:06.192, less than two-tenths off Taylor's pole-winning run, giving Spirit of Daytona another front row start.

Third went to Starworks Motorsport's Alex Popow, who turned an impressive 1:06.303 lap time in his No. 2 Riley-Ford he shares with Sebastien Bourdais again this weekend following their win at Indy. Lucas Luhr, replacing Enzo Potolicchio at the wheel of the team's No. 8 machine, was fourth quickest.

Championship leaders Chip Ganassi Racing will roll off fifth on the grid, thanks to Memo Rojas' 1:06.454 lap time set in his No. 01 Telmex Riley-BMW.

The entire field of nine DPs were separated by just one-second in qualifying.

In GT, Marsh Racing's Boris Said grabbed his first pole of the year, with the No. 31 Corvette turning a best time of 1:12.674 lap time.

The No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R of John Edwards was second with a 1:13.353 lap time, with Eric Foss making a late improvement to third in his Horton Autosport Porsche.

AIM Autosport Team FXDD's Emil Assentato qualified fourth, with Sylvain Tremblay completing the top five in class aboard his SpeedSource Mazda RX-8.

Said's fast lap came prior to the No. 59 Brumos Racing Porsche of Andrew Davis, which went off course and brought out the session's only yellow flag.

A final one-hour practice is on tap for 6:30 p.m., with the Continental Tire 200 taking the green flag Saturday at 6 p.m. ET, Live! on SPEED.
