The busy summer stretch of races continue for the stars and cars of GRAND-AM, as teams head to Road America for Saturday’s Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VisitFlorida.com.

The two-hour sprint (Live! SPEED, 12 p.m. ET) marks the halfway point in the 13-round Rolex Sports Car Series season, with a familiar pair heading the Daytona Prototype standings.

Despite having yet to win a race this season, defending champions Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas retook the point lead following their runner-up finish at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago in the No. 01 Telmex Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-BMW.

“We have been fighting and scrapping and racing as hard as we can to get whatever we can,” said Pruett. “We certainly don't have a dominant car by any means or any stretch of the imagination, so we are trying to do the best we can... That really shows the true ability of teams.”

With 100 additional rpm for their Dinan-tuned BMW powerplant, the Ganassi duo could be knocking on the door for their first victory since New Jersey, nearly one year ago.

Another team that’s been close, but no cigar in Rolex Series competition has been Starworks Motorsport, which will also benefit from a higher rev limit for its trio of Ford-powered Rileys.

Fresh off the LMP2 class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ryan Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio remain in the thick of the title race, tied with Action Express Racing’s David Donohue for second, trailing Pruett and Rojas by just two points.

In fact, 11 drivers from seven different cars sit within nine points of the championship lead.

While both Ganassi and Starworks are expected to be more competitive this weekend, they’ll be chasing the armada of Corvettes, which have dominated the DP ranks over the last few months.

The No. 90 Spirit of Daytona entry sees Antonio Garcia rejoin Richard Westbrook, who along with Michael Valiante took the blue Corvette to victory at Mid-Ohio. The Englishman heads to Wisconsin third in the championship battle.

After back-to-back wins at Homestead-Miami and New Jersey, SunTrust Racing’s Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor have been bitten by a pair of DNFs and will be looking to turn around their misfortune this weekend.

The same could be said for the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette of Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty, who are even further out of the title race after suffering power steering issues at Mid-Ohio.

As was the case in Detroit, the third Starworks Motorsport Gen-2 Riley-Ford returns to action with Colin Braun and Scott Mayer at the wheel, elevating the DP field to ten entries this weekend.

While the GT field has remained status quo, it won’t detract from the hard-fought racing expected again this weekend.

Consistency has paid off for AIM Autosport Team FXDD’s Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato, as the Ferrari duo head into Road America with four podium finishes to their credit, including a pair of wins at Homestead-Miami and New Jersey.

Holding a considerable nine-point margin over the No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro of Robin Liddell, who along with John Edwards have yet to win this year, there’s no doubt AIM’s Ferrari will again be strong on the long straights of the classic four-mile circuit.

But don’t count out the Porsche brigade, led by Rolex 24 class winners Magnus Racing, along with Brumos Racing, which will be looking to rebound following disappointing runs in the last three races.

Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana took their Turner Motorsport BMW to its first victory of the season last time out, elevating the Canadian to fifth in the championship standings, behind Barber winners Jonathan Bomarito and Sylvain Tremblay, who will be aiming to give Mazda its second victory of the season this weekend.

Official on-track activity kicks off on Thursday, with final practice and qualifying scheduled for Friday. The Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VisitFlorida.com takes the green flag Saturday at Noon ET, Live! on SPEED.
