3:10 p.m.: AJ Allmendinger appears to have the race in control, with a 10-second lead over Ryan Dalziel. An accident by the No. 51 APR Audi of Dr. Jim Norman could bring out a late-race safety car?

2:25 p.m.: The No. 01 Ganassi machine pits to change its gear stack. With lap times more than 20 seconds off the pace, Pruett would have quickly fallen off the map.

2:19 p.m: Pruett reportedly only has third, fourth and fifth gears and just served a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. It's given Felipe Nasr third in the sister Michael Shank Riley-Ford. Just over one hour remains.

2:17 p.m.: All of a sudden, it's become a two-horse race with mechanical troubles for Pruett taking him out of the contention for the win. Allmendinger now leads, five seconds ahead of Ryan Dalziel.

2:15 p.m.: Both Allmendinger and Luhr make their penultimate stops, with Ryan Dalziel climbing in the Starworks machine for the run to the checkered flag. Scott Pruett pits one lap later and has trouble getting out of the pit. It sounds like he only has third gear. It's huge drama for the defending winners.

1:41 p.m.: Restart, as AJ Allmendinger leads the field to the green. The No. 6 Shank Riley-Ford of Michael McDowell, meanwhile, is back on the lead lap, thanks to GRAND-AM's new "Lucky Dog" rule.

1:30 p.m.: Another caution, this time for the No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche of Marco Holzer, who had a tire let go and stopped on track. With less than two hours to go, this closing stages of the race is getting into a rhythm of yellows.

1:20 p.m.: All three leaders pit again, with McNish relinquishing controls to Lucas Luhr and Scott Pruett climbing aboard the No. 01 Ganassi machine, which beats both Starworks and Shank out of the pits. Pruett, however, can't hold on at the restart, as Allmendinger blasts by to take the lead.

1:12 p.m.: McNish and Allmendinger are wheel-to-wheel, and actually touch while battling on the back stretch. A yellow comes out for debris, which settles things down a bit.

1:05 p.m.: Billy Johnson is getting a baptism by fire, turning his first laps in a Daytona Prototype as a relief driver in the No. 77 Doran Racing Dallara-Ford. Johnson was one of the drivers in Turner Motorsport's BMW M3 before it ran into early race engine gremlins. Johnson won Friday's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race for Roush Performance.

12:50 p.m.: McNish is around Allemendinger through traffic and puts the Starworks Riley-Ford back out in the lead.

12:43 p.m.: The No. 2 Starworks Motorsport Riley-Ford grounds to a halt in NASCAR Turn 4, bringing out a yellow. Both leaders take the opportunity to pit, with Ozz Negri handing over to AJ Allmendinger and Allan McNish staying in the No. 8 Starworks machine. As a result, McNish takes over the lead, thanks to a quicker stop.

12:30 p.m: Negri and McNish are nose-to-tail, fighting for the lead. It's some of the most exciting racing we've seen thus far, but both will still have to make two more stops before the checkered flag.

12:10 p.m. Back to green and Ozz Negri and Allan McNish, now back in the No. 8 Starworks Riley-Ford, are having a very spirited battle for the lead. McNish attempts to make a three-wide move through traffic while on the banking but it doesn't stick.

11:45 a.m.: Restart, but another yellow comes quickly enough, this time for the Muehlner Motorsports Porsche, which stopped on track.

11:30 a.m.: We're still under yellow while the circuit gets cleaned up. Back to green shortly...

11:15 a.m.: Full course caution, the 11th of the race, this time for debris. It looks like safety car will help Dalziel, as he should restart on the same lap and just seconds behind Pruett and Negri.
