GRAND-AM: Rolex Series Silly Season Heating Up
John Dagys breaks down the confirmed, likely and rumored entries for the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series season...
GT
AIM Autosport — The 2012 class champions will defend their title, in what appears to be an expanded two-car Ferrari F458 Italia effort for the Toronto-based organization. Look for Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato to return to the wheel of a Prancing Horse, with additional drivers to be announced at a later date.

Stevenson Motorsports — Likely to be the lone Camaro GT.R in the field next year, Stevenson Motorsports has already firmed up its 2013 plans, which will see Robin Liddell and John Edwards return as full-season drivers. A second car in the NAEC could be in the works again.
Turner Motorsport — Following an encouraging season, Will Turner and the boys are set to return with a pair of BMW M3s for the full season. It’s believed both Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana will be back for more, while the lineup in the second car could consist of some familiar faces from within the team. Look for an announcement towards the end of the month.
Magnus Racing — The Rolex 24 and Brickyard-winning GT squad had been evaluating a switch of marque and potential series, but look for Magnus Racing return with a relatively unchanged program of Andy Lally, John Potter and its Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
Brumos Racing — Early indications are that there also be no major changes to Brumos Racing for 2013, which should see Leh Keen and Andrew Davis return to the wheel of their 2011 championship-winning Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
Horton Autosport — One of the surprise teams of 2012, look for Horton Autosport to run under a new banner for next year, with at least one Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car entered for the season.
Marsh Racing — While having considered a move to DP, Marsh Racing looks nearly certain to remain in GT with its Whelen-backed Corvette, which plans to take on the entire 12-round season for the first time. The team had skipped the Rolex 24 for the past two seasons. Eric Curran and Boris Said are set to return as drivers.
APR Motorsport — Following a learning year with the Audi R8 GRAND-AM, APR will be back, potentially with a much larger presence in the Rolex Series. Expect to see an star-studded lineup wheeling at least one of the mid-engined sports cars at the Rolex 24, in what will surely grab some international headlines.
Aston Martin — Following in the footsteps of the GT3-based Audis and Ferraris, the V12-engined Aston Martin Vantage is poised to enter the Rolex Series GT ranks next year, although final confirmation has yet to come from the British manufacturer.
The team tabbed to run the pair of customer Vantage GT3s is unclear at the moment. Multimatic had campaigned the GT4-spec Vantages in CTSCC, but it’s believed both Dempsey Racing and TRG could also be in the running. However, time is running out to confirm a 2013 program, especially with the cars needing to be built and adapted to Rolex Series-spec.
TRG — Likely to appear for the Rolex 24 again with a fleet of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, it's unclear TRG's status for the full season, especially with the Kevin Buckler-led team's rumored potential involvement with Aston Martin.
Scuderia Corsa — Having entered the final two races of the year with its Ferrari of Beverly Hills-owned 458 Italia Grand Am, the California-based team has laid out ambitions of taking part in the entire 2013 season. Further details, however, are unclear at this point.
AF Corse/Waltrip — Another part-time competitor in 2012, AF Waltrip, run by the veteran AF Corse squad, could also step up to a full-time basis next year, with the potential of two Ferraris for the Rolex 24. Look for MWR drivers to likely return to the wheel of one of the Prancing Horses.
Extreme Speed Motorsports — There had been discussions that this car, also run on a part-time basis this year, could step up to a full-season customer program. No word has been given on the status of ESM’s effort, but a return to the Rolex 24 appears likely.

GX
SpeedSource/Mazda — The first to commit to the new-for-2013 GX category, SpeedSource is expected to campaign at least one of the SKYACTIV-D-powered Mazda entries, widely believed to be a MAZDA6. Three to four of the diesel-powered entries, converted from the tube-framed RX-8, could be on the grid for the Rolex 24 (fielded by different teams), although it’s unknown how many will stick around for the season.
BGB Motorsports — Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge regulars BGB Motorsports is ready to step up to the Rolex Series next year, running a Porsche Cayman S. The Florida-based team is evaluating the installation of a 911 GTS powerplant in the mid-engined sports car. A second Cayman, with Luna-C backing with drivers Ryan Eversley and Lee Davis, is rumored.
McMahon Raceworks — While announced as one of the first planned GX class entries, there has been little talk coming from McMahon Raceworks as of late, which had planned to enter a specially built Lotus Evora GX. It’s unclear if the team will surface in time for the Rolex 24.
