Spirit of Daytona picked up its third GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series victory of the season after taking a fast, yet efficient approach to Sunday's Continental Tire Sports Car Festival.

Antonio Garcia drove his No. 90 Corvette DP across the line 3.878 seconds ahead of the second-placed No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette of Alex Gurney, who was forced to make a late-race splash for fuel while leading with just six minutes remaining.

The Spaniard, who had pitted 18 minutes prior for his final fuel-only stop, not only had to guess his mileage in the closing laps, but hold off a hard-charging Gurney, who made up nearly four seconds in the matter of three laps.

"There are always a lot of things going through your mind," Garcia said. "When you save fuel or not save fuel, you don't know exactly what pace you need to follow. Basically that was the main thing.

"I had a problem with my dash and could not see my pace. So I didn't know what to do."

The win for Garcia and Westbrook capped off a perfect weekend for the Troy Fills-led squad, which started from the pole and also recorded the race's fastest lap.

"We started with a tricky car but we worked on it," said Westbrook, who has been a part of all three wins for the team this season. "It's good for us, this track. We've been good on different tracks as well but have just not had the luck. We just needed a trouble-free weekend and that's what we got."

Split strategies by all of the contending Daytona Prototype cars shook up the closing stages of the two-hour and 45-minute contest, including a gutsy right-side only tire change and fuel stop for the leading No. 8 Starworks Motorsport Riley-Ford of Ryan Dalziel with 32 minutes to go.

Dalziel rejoined ahead of the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford of Ozz Negri, who also enjoyed time out front. But a quick fuel-only stop for Gurney put the Red Dragon in second, narrowly ahead of the Scot, who was looking to claw his way back into the championship chase.

While Gurney and co-driver Jon Fogarty recorded a runner-up result, the Starworks machine of Dalziel and Alex Tagliani completed the podium in third, three positions ahead of points leaders Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, who came home sixth in their Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-BMW.

As a result, Dalziel has closed to within 13 points of the Ganassi duo, heading into the season-ending round at Lime Rock Park in two weeks' time.

Negri, who led a race-high 37 laps, finished on Sunday alongside co-driver John Pew, with the No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Joao Barbosa and Darren Law completing the top-five overall and in class.

Team Sahlen's scored its maiden Rolex Series GT victory, with Dane Cameron and Wayne Nonnamaker taking their Mazda RX-8 to an emotional win in the team's second-to-last outing in the production-based ranks.
