Six hours down at the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour and it is the race that has had everything.

Numerous safety cars, intermittent rain, accidents, battles in the pack and lead changes have meant the thousands of spectators who have turned up trackside have not been disappointed.

Christopher Mies of Phoenix Racing led the pack away in his Audi R8, but it wasn’t long before Allan Simonsen challenged for the lead, taking the position on lap three. The Dutchman’s morning seemed to go from good to great, setting a new lap record of 2:06.330 - but his lucky streak ended when his Ill Bello Rosso Ferrari ran out of fuel, citing a faulty gauge as the problem.

An electrical issue later forced the car to the garage, the vehicle’s fire bomb being set off in the process and potentially ending their day.

Two hours went by before the first safety car, but it certainly wasn’t the last with a rush of yellow flags in the next three hours.

Wet and slippery conditions claimed outright GT3 vehicles from Black Falcon (#21) and United Autosport’s Audi R8 LMS in hefty crashes at the top of the Mountain.

Up the front, the two Phoenix Audi’s looked to be taking control of the race, before the Erebus / Black Falcon Mercedes stepped up and challenged the pair as the Black Falcon SLS and Ill Bello Rosso Ferrari faltered.

Some superb wet-weather racing between Jeroen Bleekemolen in the Mercedes against Craig Lowndes in the Audi were a highlight, the lead regularly changing.

A forecast of more rain to come will ensure the race will continue in the same fashion, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.
