With three weeks to go until the Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai, DragonSpeed has firmed up the driver lineup for its debut race with its new Audi R8 LMS ultra.

The Elton Julian-run squad confirmed Friday the signing of Eric Lux, who will join Enzo Potolicchio, Pierre Ehret, Pete Aronson and Francis Hideki Onda for the twice-around-the-clock Middle Eastern enduro on Jan. 10-12.

"I’d put Eric on a shortlist of American talent that deserves a regular factory ride,” Julian said. “We looked at some of the young drivers who ran the Audi in Grand-Am, but Eric was the better bet.

"I know from driving and winning with him in 2011 that he has the right attitude and temperament for endurance racing, and his transition from GTs to prototypes has been really impressive. I’d place the R8 LMS ultra GT3 somewhere in between GT and LMP, so I’m sure he’ll get a handle on the car in no time at all.”

Lux, the 2011 American Le Mans Series PC class co-champion, will also drive for the Florida-based team at the Bathurst 12 Hour, the second race in DragonSpeed's planned "Classic Enduro Challenge" program that will encompass some of the world's leading GT endurance races.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to race for DragonSpeed at Dubai and Bathurst," Lux said. "I’m equally excited to be at the wheel of a GT car again, especially the Audi R8 LMS ultra given its success this season. If Elton is bringing the skill, smarts, and determination I saw as his teammate in 2011 to running a team, we have a real chance of scoring some great results.”

The addition of Lux strengthens DragonSpeed's already diverse driver lineup, which will see Potolicchio, who captured top LMP2 honors in the FIA World Endurance Championship, make his second Dubai 24 start in an Audi. The Venezuelan made his race debut this year aboard a 2011-spec United Autosports R8 LMS.

Ehret, meanwhile, also competed in this year's WEC, with Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific race winner Onda and American Aronson completing the five-driver squad for the team's international debut.

DragonSpeed's Audi R8 LMS ultra will be one of more than 80 expected entries for the 24 Hours of Dubai, which serves as the kickoff to the international sports car racing season.
