In just seven short years, the 24 Hours of Dubai has grown into one of the world’s most prominent endurance races and arguably the kick-off to the international racing season each year.

While this year’s around-the-clock desert marathon attracted drivers and teams from 40 countries, including notables such as United Autosports, race organizers are aiming to have an increased American presence in 2013.

Creventic, the Dutch organization behind the Dubai 24, announced last month that it will offer U.S.-based team a discounted entry fee of $10,000, which includes sea freight of one car and equipment to the Middle East and back.

"We don't have any real all-American teams or American car,” Ivo Breukers of Creventic told SPEED.com. "If they can bring their cars to one of the major East Coast ports (Baltimore, New York, Miami, etc), we take everything over.”

Breukers, a gentleman racer who took part in his first Rolex 24 at Daytona last month in a GT-class Corvette, says he received a favorable amount of interest from GRAND-AM teams that are potentially interested in taking part in next year’s race, which runs to a similar class structure seen in the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

This year’s field in Dubai was dominated by GT3 machinery, which represented nearly half of the 73-car grid of GT and touring cars, but Breukers says any current-spec Rolex Series GT car could be placed into a category as well. Many cars from the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge are also eligible.

“The only thing is that [we suggest] teams to take their second car because we cannot be back in time for the [Rolex 24],” Breukers said. “But most of the teams [we've been in discussion with] have a few cars.

“If I am in a lucky situation where we have five or six American teams, it would be good for the event. The race getting more and more international. We'd like to see the 24 Hours of Dubai as a very international start of the season.”

The eighth edition of the Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai is scheduled for Jan. 10-12, 2013.
