McLaren's MP4-12C scored its first-ever 24-hour victory, with Lapidus Racing taking the mid-engined sports car to a dominant win in the 15th running of the 24 Hours of Barcelona.

Adam Christodoulou, Tim Mullen, Phil Quaife and Klaas Hummel enjoyed an up-and-down around-the-clock battle at Circuit de Catalunya, with the McLaren stretching out to a 12-lap lead at the halfway point. However, a lengthy stop to replace a turbocharger wastegate cost the quartet 19 laps overnight.

Down but not out, the McLaren rejoined in third overall and clawed back into the lead, despite suffering a collision with a BMW 123D just prior to sunrise.

The Lapidus machine ended up taking a four-lap victory over the Russian Bears Motorsport Ferrari F458 Italia, the only other GT3-spec car entered in the 51-car starting field. And despite their mid-race issues, the winning entry logged more than 1,800 miles.

It marked the first 24-hour victory for a McLaren since its outright win in the 24 Hour of Le Mans in 1995.

The Auto Racing Club Bratislava Porsche 997 Cup finished third overall after leading overnight but being handed a five-lap penalty for a yellow-flag infringement. However, the result was still good enough for the squad to take top class honors.

Other class winners included Bonk Motorsport (SP2), Russian Bears Motorsport (A3T), Besaplast Racing (A2), Partl Motorsport (SP3) and Kueperracing (A4).

Thirty-nine cars were classified at the end of the race, which was a part of the 24H Series of races by Creventic for the second consecutive year.

The Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai, Creventic's marquee event, is next up, scheduled for Jan 10-12, 2013.

RESULTS: 24 Hours of Barcelona
