Following a string of disappointing results in the opening rounds of the season, precipitated by reliability issues for its new McLaren MP4-12Cs, United Autosports announced Monday that it has withdrawn from the Blancpain Endurance Series with immediate effect.

The Anglo-American squad, which will still be present in this weekend's Total 24 Hours of Spa with a single-car Audi R8 LMS Ultra entry, has shifted focus back to the British GT Championship, with plans for a two-car McLaren effort in 2013.

Team owner Zak Brown and Richard Meins will be part of the driver lineup for next year's British GT attack. The team, meanwhile, is expected to continue running an Audi for Charles Bateman and Matt Bell in this year's championship, with its McLarens appearing in select BGT rounds later this year.

"After careful analysis of the existing package, the team decided it was in their best interest to focus their energy on an intensive period of testing and development to better understand the intricacies of the cars," a team statement said on their withdrawal from BES.

The McLaren MP4-12C has battled reliability woes since the start of the year, with the mid-engined sports car having scored a best result of 13th (in the hands of a different team) thus far. There are currently 20 customer cars racing worldwide.

Despite withdrawing from BES, United Autosports has reaffirmed its plans to compete with the MP4-12Cs at Macau GT Cup race in November as well as the second running of the Gulf 12 Hours at Abu Dhabi in December. The Bathurst 12 Hour, scheduled for February 2013, is also on their calendar.
