While the holiday season is in full swing, news of another manufacturer joining the GT ranks came through Friday, as Group Lotus confirmed intentions of a two-car factory GTE program with its new Evora GT2 for next year.

The British manufacturer, having announced last month a full-scale IndyCar effort in 2012, has entrusted Jetalliance Racing to run the works sportscar program in the seven-round Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, which kicks off at the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

"I'm very pleased that we were able to seal this collaboration before the end of this year, and now I'm really proud to be able to cooperate with the traditional Lotus marque,” Jetalliance team owner Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer said in a statement.

Jetalliance is no stranger to the world of GT racing, having fielded Porsches and Aston Martins in the FIA GT Championship in past years. This venture, however, marks the first factory partnership for the Austrian squad. Hoyer confirmed that the two cars will feature a mixture of pro and amateur drivers.

Lotus made a splash on the sportscar racing scene this year with the launch of the Evora Cup GT4, which debuted at the GT4 European Cup competition in August before later taking part in other races including the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone and the Vallelunga 6 Hours enduro in Italy.

In addition to a GTE-spec Evora being built, Group Lotus also confirmed intentions in October of building a GT3 variant of the Evora and plans for an all-new LMP2 car that's slated to hit the track by the end of next year.

With Friday’s confirmation of a factory GTE program, Lotus joins the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Corvette, Aston Martin, Ford, Jaguar, Spyker and Panoz in the highly competitive category. Further news, including driver announcements, are expected to be forthcoming from Jetalliance in the new year.
