IN THE COCKPIT: Alex Tagliani, Edmonton IndyCar
The fans in Edmonton were screaming from the top of their lungs every time I came through turn one.

The race in Edmonton was absolutely amazing for Team Barracuda – BHA.

From the start, we were fast. During all of the practice sessions, we were consistently running in the top five. It wasn’t a surprise to me though. Obviously it’s not the first time that we have shown signs of speed and being competitive.

We had a great car in Detroit and qualified third, but we a little trouble on the starting grid and then got caught out when the pits were closed. Then in Toronto, we made the Firestone Fast Six again, but had some issues with sixth gear.

I think that since we changed to Honda for the Indianapolis 500, the No. 98 car has shown a tremendous amount of speed and the Team Barracuda – BHA crew has made us the one car that is consistently making it into the Firestone Fast Six.

In Edmonton, the luck was on our side. We made the Fast Six for the third consecutive qualifying session and then lead the race for 49 laps. Overall, it was great to be able to have a problem-free race.

On the third stint, we didn’t use a set of sticker reds, so we came up just short of the speed needed to get those three-tenths of a second when we really needed to push. Nevertheless, we’re very happy with a top five finish.

As I’ve said before, I’m very proud of everyone involved with Team Barracuda - BHA. I’m so lucky to have this crew, Bryan [Herta] and Steve [Newey], Barracuda Networks, Bowers & Wilkins, our other sponsors, supporters of our team and of course, the fans.

The fans in Edmonton were screaming from the top of their lungs every time I came through turn one. It was so nice to hear the support, but I was shocked. I said to myself, ‘This is a long race. There’s two hours to go and they need to keep some energy to make it to the end!’

That just shows the dedication and support from our Canadian fans and it’s one of the reasons that the races in Canada are so successful. There’s a lot of passion and I hope that we’ll have continued support from INDYCAR to keep Canadian races on the Series’ schedule.

In Edmonton, I think we finally got the coverage we deserve and the acknowledgement of the speed we’re producing on track. Overall, it was a very positive experience that we’re going to learn from and use to help us as we move forward.

This week, we’re heading over to test in Mid-Ohio and I’m so excited. Our goal is to show everyone that we’re still in the fight to finish strong in the championship points, and that we have the speed, the crew and the dedication to get it done.
