There’s no need to wait for the IZOD IndyCar Series season opener on March 24th at St. Petersburg to see some of your favorite drivers in action.

The list of IndyCar drivers looking for seats or waiting to be confirmed also continues to grow.

A DP entry with all three of Andretti Autosport’s drivers came close to happening, and with Hinchcliffe set for a Mazda return, 2012 IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay is expected to be announced in a leading team this week. SPEED.com has also learned that Marco Andretti, the final member of the trio, will likely sit out this year’s event.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Justin Wilson, who shared the cockpit of the winning No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford last year, will likely be going for his second victory with the Ohio-based outfit, and Bruno Junqueira, who deputized for the injured Josef Newgarden at Baltimore with the Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing team, could be partnering with Pagenaud in the No. 42 Sahlens car.

Other IndyCar drivers with recent DP experience include E.J. Viso, Alex Tagliani and Graham Rahal, who shared the winning Ganassi entry in 2011, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see at least one or two of them in the race.

Provided RHR and some of the candidates listed above take the green flag, the IndyCar Series would have almost half of its 2012 field represented at the Rolex 24.

2012 Firestone Indy Lights champion Tristan Vautier will share the No. 00 Mazda/Yellow Dragon Mazda6 with USF2000 standout Spencer Pigot, while the Jorge Goncalvez and Gustavo Yacaman, two of 2012’s top Indy Lights competitors, could add to the roster of Mazda Road To Indy representatives if they return to drive with Michael Shank in the No. 6 Riley-Ford.
