INDYCAR: IMS Launches Tony Stewart Smoke2Indy Petition
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is urging fans to support Tony Stewart's possible return to the Indy 500 with Penske through an online petition.

1998 Indy Racing League champion Tony Stewart has driven for some big names at the Indy 500, and if the recent offer by IndyCar and NASCAR team owner Roger Penske wasn't enough of an enticement on its own, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has launched an initiative to get the 3-time Sprint Cup champion to make his return with The Captain.
"I know we took your spot this year, but you're a car owner, you're a race driver, you're a track promoter. How about doing the double at Indy this year? Are you available?", Penske said to Stewart at last week's NASCAR banquet, but with Stewart's plate already full, pulling in the 41-year-old to make his sixth Indy 500 start could be a challenge.
Despite the attraction of being offered one of the most competitive cars in the field of 33, between his multi-car Cup program and the need to find additional sponsors for at least two of those programs, chances are slim for Stewart to focus his energy on doing the Indy 500 and Charlotte 600 double on the same day.
IMS, however, hopes that with enough fan support on the #Smoke2Indy page they've created, the Indiana native's choice can be swayed in their favor.
