Promising Colombian driver Sebastian Saavedra, and that’s Sebastian with an ‘a’, has signed with Jay Penske’s TRUECAR-sponsored Dragon Racing team to partner with 4-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais. That’s Sebastien with an ‘e.’

Despite the high likelihood of ‘tian/tien’ misspellings this season, the 22-year-old finds himself in a prime position to develop and deliver alongside one of the series’ most talented drivers.

Set to pilot the Chevy-powered No. 6 entry, Saavedra will make his return to fulltime IndyCar competition after a limited 2012 schedule. He ran most of the 2011 calendar with Conquest Racing and drove for Andretti Autosport in three races last year, including the season finale at Fontana, while concentrating on the Firestone Indy Lights championship.

Saavedra showed notable speed and maturity at Andretti Autosport, and hopes to take his career to the next level with a veteran teammate and the strong engineering foundation Dragon has to offer.

"It has been a long off-season for everyone who loves racing, and I have been ready to get back in a car since Fontana,” said Saavedra, who should turn his first laps of the new year at Sebring next week.

“I'm extremely excited on this new chapter in my life, and very thankful to everyone who made it a reality. Together with TRUECAR, Sebastian (Bourdais) and Jay's dynamic approach to building a winning franchise, [it] makes me a strong believer in Dragon Racing’s future, and our ability to win championships together.

The exact livery on the No. 6 is still being finalized, but when it appears, look for Saavedra’s long list of Colombian sponsors to fit among the TRUECAR branding.

“I want to sincerely thank TrueCar and Dragon Racing for giving me this opportunity and all my Colombian supporters; Coldeportes, Marca Pais, Autoniza, Postobon, Seringel and Sumimed, who have supported me since the beginning,” continued Saavedra.
