INDYCAR: Series Opens 2010 In Sao Paulo
After several trips to different cities during the past six months, IndyCar has finally nailed down a location in Brazil for its 2010 season opener.

After several trips to different cities during the past six months, IndyCar has finally nailed down a location in Brazil for its 2010 season opener.
Dario Franchitti will begin defense of his crown on a street circuit in Sao Paulo next March. It was originally believed Rio de Janeiro would be the host but Sao Paulo sealed the deal on Friday with Terry Angstadt, president of IndyCar's commercial division.
"We are good to go," said Angstadt in an email.
Gilberto Kassab, Mayor of São Paulo, Brazil, issued the following statement to Brazilian journalist Victor Martins:
"The arrival of IndyCars reaffirms São Paulo’s vocation to major world events. It's a gift to our people who will be able to get close to big cars and drivers. It is also an important business opportunity for the city, which is establishing itself as capital of motor racing."
A series satured with Brazilians (Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, Vitor Meira, Mario Moraes and Rafael Mathos) figures to draw a healthy crowd and Angstadt has maintained each team will receive a six-figure check fro the promoters in addition to having all expenses paid.
Tony Cotman, vice president of competition for IndyCar, spent the past week with Angstadt in Brazil and termed the course: "pretty damn good."
IndyCar has never raced in Brazil but CART competed on a D-shaped oval outside Rio from 1996-2000.
