INDYCAR, the sanctioning body for the IZOD IndyCar Series, has converted a planned manufacturer test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway into an open test for teams on April 4th, with April 5th being held as a rain backup.

The open test will have a few restrictions, with teams limited to running one car, four sets of tires (three 2011-spec and one 2012-spec), and one set of "Cadillac" rear wheel guards.

Rookies will not be permitted at the test.

The Indy test coincides with rookies Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud testing at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway Oval on the 4th and 5th, and the Infineon Raceway test date the four-car Ganassi Racing operation scheduled for the 4th.

In additional testing news, three of the four Chevrolet-powered teams that tested at Infineon last month will return on April 9th--a week ahead of the Long Beach Grand Prix--with the full roster of drivers from Andretti Autosport, KV Racing Technology and Team Penske expected to attend.

While the Infineon test takes place in Sonoma, Ed Carpenter Racing will conduct its first oval test six hours south at Auto Club Speedway.
