One of the best stories of the 2010 IndyCar season now has a sequel.

Simona De Silvestro’s impressive on-track performance this year was tempered by the fact her HVM team had no full-time sponsor and nothing lined up for 2011 when the checkered flag came down at Homestead.

But owner Keith Wiggins, who has used a lot of his own money to keep the doors open for the past couple years, is poised to run his Swiss Miss with a proper budget in 2011.

Responding to a rumor that HVM had secured a big-time sponsor for de Silvestro, Wiggins told SPEED.com: “Yes, we’ve signed a multi-year agreement with a sponsor to secure Simona’s future.

“We’ll have an official announcement and press conference in January but that’s all we can say.”

Asked if it was a company from de Silvestro’s homeland of Switzerland or an American entity, Wiggins replied: “It’s from this side of the water and it’s going to be exciting to bring this company into our sport for the first time on a full-time basis.

“Imran (Safiulla, who is also Simona’s manager) was instrumental in putting this deal together and it’s great because now we can continue to build her brand.

“Her ability and personality greatly helped land this marketing opportunity.”

Despite being a rookie with no teammate on a small budget operation, de Silvestro opened a lot of eyes with her speed and road racing prowess.

Although she only had a pair of Top-10 finishes (eighth and Mid-Ohio and ninth at Toronto), she was spun out while running sixth at Edmonton, where she qualified seventh and won her time trial session. She also qualified in the Top-15 on seven other occasions.

Wiggins, whose operation scored a pair of 2007 victories in Champ Car with Robert Doornbos, said he intends to go back to fielding two cars.

“That’s our goal and we’ve got a driver who has indicated he wants to come here so we should know for sure in a couple more days.”
