JRCS participants race in the Jim Russell FJR-50, which is one of the most advanced racing cars available. The FJR-50 is purpose-built to be the ideal learning platform for drivers, providing a modern, relevant link between the existing levels of motorsport; with special attention to the transition that young drivers will make from karting to a formula car. The FJR-50 is also fitted with an integrated state of the art Pi Research data acquisition system. Coaches and drivers review driver inputs to help facilitate the most effective evaluation of each drivers progress. By training and racing in this car, drivers are better prepared for the upper levels of motorsport as the FJR-50 is based on the successful and proven Lola B06-30 championship winning Formula 3 car.
The 2009 Championship Series promises to continue the fierce competition created during the 2008 Championship Series which was decided at the last race. On December 12, 2008, Brett Smrz clinched the Championship and Nick Galante won the Masters division. Smrz recorded the fastest lap of the race at 1:31.437. By comparison, Indy Light and IndyCar racing run times of 1:25 and 1:16 respectively. The battle for the Masters Championship was just as fierce with Nick Galante, Will Hill and Chuck Hulse finishing the season in first, second and third, respectively.
