KARTING: 24 Hours Of Victory Lane Karting Report

Start with a long list of local and national karting champions from across the United States and Canada, sprinkle in a few familiar names from NASCAR, ARCA and Grand-Am, and then send them off for two trips around the clock and you have the second annual 24 Hours of Victory Lane Karting presented by NOS Energy Drink.

At the end of the 24 hour endurance test, Team Stacked, consisting of Hans Soneson, Mike Ibach, Robbie Freeman, DJ Osmond and Joe Sansone had completed 2626 laps of the Victory Lane indoor road course to take the victory by a margin of seven laps over the NAFTA team of Chris Evans, Mike Smith, Bryan Zeiss, Dave Carter, Jordan Yakiwchuk and Michael Williamson.

The 9am start saw the Joe Gibbs Racing Chiefs on the pole after Corey LaJoie set a best lap of 32.171 seconds in the Friday night qualifying session. The entire field was covered by less than nine-tenths of a second in qualifying in the equally prepared Sodi RX7 karts.

In the early hours of the race, Stacked, NAFTA and JGR Chiefs traded first place before the Endurance Karting team of Yury Lyalko, Truman Godfrey, Kevin Bligan, Dan Burke and Johan Schwartz took the lead at the three-hour mark, which also marked the first fuel stop of the race.

For the next three hours, NAFTA and Endurance Karting raced at the front of the field before a pit lane penalty dropped Endurance Karting to the fourth position at the six-hour mark of the race. Their penalty boosted the MC Squared team into second place.

The real excitement of the entire race took place near the 14-hour mark (11 pm), as Stacked caught the leading NAFTA team, and then waged a furious battle for first. The lead switched three times before Stacked established the first position, a spot they would maintain in the final 10 hours of the event. Stacked was followed across the finish line by NAFTA and the Endurance Karting teams as each of the 14 squads completed more than 2500 laps.

Mike Poleski of the Grand Prix New York team set the fastest lap of the race with a best circuit of 31.658 seconds.

The race was sponsored by NOS Energy Drink, Ember Clothing and Red Robin restaurants.
