The calendar for the new-for-2013 Asian Le Mans Series was unveiled Saturday, as part of the championship's official launch in Shanghai.

Featuring six rounds in four countries, the series will make stops in China, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia. Each of the races will be three hours in length, with the option to increase the race distance in the years to come.

As announced in June, the championship will comprise of four categories: LMP2, LMPC, GTE and GTC, but with the latter being open not only for FIA GT3-spec machinery but also GT300 cars from Japan's popular Super GT series. Additionally, GT Cup cars from popular one-make series will be permitted to help fill the grid.

Each class will enforce Pro-Am driver pairings, while all entries must also have at least one Asian driver in its lineup.

Auto invites for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours will be awarded to class champions in LMP2, GTE and GTC, with the GTC winning squad's invite eligible for use in GTE only.

The official launch of the series came at Shanghai International Circuit, site of this weekend's FIA World Endurance Championship season finale.

“The launch of a series of endurance races on the Asian continent bearing the name and embodying the values of the Le Mans 24 Hours is an essential step in the context of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s development on the international scene," said ACO President Pierre Fillon.

"It is our duty to put on Le Mans-type endurance races where the markets are surging from an economic point of view: concerning the motor car, the Asian one is the uncontested world leader."

The ACO has entrusted China-based S2M Group and TS Motorsport to serve as the series' promoter and organizer, respectively.

"In reality, today marks the start of much hard work to create a successful Asian Le Mans Series for many years to come," said Mark Thomas, Managing Director of S2M Group. "However we are confident with the team and partners we are bringing together we can cement the Series as one of the preeminent motor sports properties in Asia.”

Thomas said he hopes to have a full-season grid of between 18-20 cars for the inaugural season.

2013 Asian Le Mans Series Schedule:

May 26 – Shanghai (China)
July 7 – Ordos (China)
Aug. 4 – Inje (South Korea)
Sept. 22 – Fuji Speedway (Japan)
