Following the much-hyped announcement of Alpine's return to sports car racing earlier this month, the French manufacturer has taken the wraps off its LMP2 contender that will contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans and European Le Mans Series.

Unveiled during an event in Paris on Friday, the Nissan-powered car, re-branded from the successful Oreca 03 chassis, will be piloted by Nelson Panciatici, Pierre Ragues and the newly confirmed Tristan Gommendy. French squad Signatech has been tasked to run the single-car operation this year.

“We’re now heading for the Paul Ricard circuit to put the car on the track and start work," said team principal Philippe Sinault. "Our aim is to be a front-runner in the highly competitive LMP2 category. We will put the various trial sessions to good use, as well as the first two ELMS races, to prepare for Le Mans 24 Hours, which remains the high point of the season.”

Panciatici, who was a part of Signatech's FIA World Endurance Championship program last year, added: "We’ve already made huge progress and I’m quite sure that after the various trials our engineer, Olivier, has planned for us, we will be competitive enough to aim for victory," he said. "That’s our objective and we’re aware that the LMP2 competition will be fierce!

"I know I can count on my co-drivers, Pierre and Tristan’s experience, to help me progress in this discipline. There are a few more trial sessions and two races left to get us ready for Le Mans 24 Hours and I’m feeling confident."

The Alpine-Nissan will make its race debut in next month's Three Hours of Silverstone, the season-opener for the ELMS on April 13.
